GTA 6: which console should you play it on?

GTA VI launches on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Five consoles can run it, with real differences in price, storage and power. Here is how to choose.

When does GTA 6 come out, and on which consoles?

Rockstar Games has set the release of Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced for launch, and the game is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One: you need a current-generation console.

Good to know: GTA VI comes as a download code sent by email: no disc. The game can be pre-loaded from November 12 and runs on every console, with or without a drive. On PS5 the code is region-locked: you need a European PlayStation account.

The story takes place in the state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, around Vice City, following Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, the series' first protagonist duo.

Which console for which player?

Best value

The standard PS5 is the safest pick: same power as the Digital Edition, plus a disc drive for your other boxed games and Blu-rays (GTA VI itself comes as a code): PS5 + GTA 6 bundle (€579.99).

The best picture

The PS5 Pro has a much stronger GPU and AI upscaling (PSSR) that sharpens the image on 4K TVs: PS5 Pro + GTA 6 bundle (€819.99).

Already on Xbox

The Xbox Series X is Microsoft's most powerful console, with a disc drive, your account, achievements and Game Pass: Xbox Series X + GTA 6 bundle (€629.99).

Tight budget

The Xbox Series S is the cheapest way into GTA VI. It targets a lower resolution, which suits Full HD screens well. Mind its 512 GB of storage: Xbox Series S + GTA 6 bundle (€389.99).

Download-only

The PS5 Digital Edition offers the same power as the standard PS5 for less, without a drive. For GTA VI that makes no difference, since the game comes as a code: PS5 Digital + GTA 6 bundle (€529.99).

How much storage do you need?

Open-world games of this scale often take more than 100 GB once installed. With 1 TB (PS5, Series X) or 2 TB (PS5 Pro) you have room for GTA VI and several other games. On the 512 GB Series S, expect to manage space or add an expansion card later.

Why buy a bundle?
